Wilton participated  in a cutting-edge solar program, first introduced to Wilton residents on January 12th in the Brubeck Room at the Wilton Public Library and reiterated in a number of subsequent events,  that made going solar easy and affordable.   Solarize Wilton was part of Solarize Connecticut -- a ground breaking residential solar program spearheaded by Connecticut’s Green Bank through a partnership with SmartPower.  Solarize Connecticut has helped thousands of residents save money on energy bills through solar.  Over 300 people attended education workshops and 32 homeowners took advantage of the Solarize program.  Once these new  systems Once theses new systems are installed, Wilton will have close to 70 solar systems providing electric energy to Wilton residents.  The additional 32 installations are equivalent to oil reduction of 25,000 gallons per year and a reduction in CO2 emissions of 210 tons per year.

Solarize Wilton was a coordinated effort across the community, supported by the Town of Wilton, the Wilton Energy Commission and Wilton Go Green.  Working together, the Town selected Ross Solar Group from Danbury, CT as their solar installer in exchange for special discount pricing. Having a pre-selected solar installer such as Ross meant that  residents were getting the best possible price and equipment, specifically chosen for Wilton residents.   Solarize Wilton also offered residents access to special financing options that make going solar affordable with no upfront costs.  Other financing resources were available through Wilton’s solar installer.

The Solarize Wilton program was kicked off with a workshop on Tuesday, January 12th at the Wilton Library, Residents learned about the program, were introduced to key personnel of Ross Solar, heard about financing options, and had a chance to learn if their house is good candidate for solar.

Lynne Vanderslice, Wilton’s First Selectman, commented: “This exciting program offers a new solar choice for residents at reduced rates, an opportunity to take control of their energy costs, saving money while using sustainable energy.  I’m very excited that Wilton will be participating in such a worthwhile program. Wilton has a proud tradition of taking advantage of environmentally friendly programs through our Wilton Go Green efforts, and I look forward a great partnership with Solarize  Connecticut.” (Link to Lynne Vanderslice'sLetter to Residents)
